My Favorite Things

Hi! My name is Emily and I'm in first grade. Today I want to tell you about some of my favorite things. Get ready, because this is going to be a long list!

At the very top of my favorites list is my pet dog Buddy. He's a golden retriever and is so cute and fluffy. I love petting him and playing fetch outside. Buddy always gets so excited when I come home from school. He jumps up and down and his tail wags a million miles per hour! We have a really fun game where I throw his tennis ball and he runs to go get it, then brings it back to me. Sometimes he pretends he's going to give it to me but then runs away at the last second. Silly Buddy!

Another one of my absolute favorite things is ice cream. Mmm, just thinking about it makes me hungry! My favorite flavor is chocolate with rainbow sprinkles on top. On hot summer days, my mom will sometimes take me to the ice cream shop after school and let me get a big waffle cone piled high with scoops. I

always make such a mess eating it, but it's so worth it. The ice cream drips all down my hands and face but I just lick it off. Yum! I love arts and crafts time at school too. Using all the fun markers, paints, glue and scissors to make cool projects is the best. My favorite craft so far was when we made puppets out of brown paper bags. I decorated mine to look like a friendly monster with crazy hair and googly eyes. His name is Stanley and he always makes me laugh. I put on puppet shows for my parents and little brother at home. They think Stanley is really silly!

Playing outside is another favorite of mine. I have a swing set in my backyard that I could play on for hours. I pump my legs to go higher and higher, almost trying to reach the clouds! Sometimes my friends come over and we take turns on the swings, or play fun games like tag or hide-and-seek. My backyard feels like one big playground in the summer.

Video games are really fun too. I'm not very good at them yet, but I practice a lot. My favorite games are the racing ones where you drive super fast cars and crazy karts. I have a hard time staying on the track and I always seem to crash into the walls! But it makes me laugh every time. Maybe I'll get better at it if I keep playing. I just need to work on my steering!

Well, those are some of my very favorite things. As you can see, I like staying active, being creative, and just having a good time. A girl can never have too many favorite things, right? I feel so lucky to have a life filled with so much fun! THE END

My School Days

I love going to school! It's so much fun. We learn new things every day. My favorite subject is English class because I really like learning new words and playing language games.

One of the best parts of school is getting to see all my friends. We play together at recess and sit together at lunchtime. Sometimes we have arguments, but our teacher helps us make up. She says friends don't have to agree on everything to still be friends.

Last month, we went on a field trip to the zoo! I saw so many cool animals - monkeys swinging from the trees, big elephants spraying water with their trunks, and huge snakes slithering along the ground. The funniest was probably the penguin exhibit

where they went sliding across the ice on their bellies. I laughed so hard my tummy hurt!

School keeps me busy, but I don't mind. There's always something new and exciting happening. Like this week, we started learning about outer space! I can't wait to build my own model rocket ship. Being a first grader is the best.

Back in the classroom, Mrs. Taylor clapped her hands to get our attention. \"Alright, boys and girls, who can tell me what the three R's are?\" She looked around at all the raised hands. I knew this one! The three R's were reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic. Though I had a hard time saying that last word sometimes. Arithmetic - there, I got it!

\"Jamal?\" Mrs. Taylor called on my friend across the room. \"Can you tell us what the three R's are?\"

Jamal scrunched up his face, thinking hard.

\"Um...reading...um...rebounding? And, uh, racing?\" He gave a sheepish grin.

The rest of us laughed. Mrs. Taylor shook her head with a smile. \"Not quite, Jamal. But thanks for trying. Who else knows the answer?\"

I waved my hand up and down, straining up out of my seat until she finally called on me. \"Reading, writing, and arithmetic!\" I announced proudly.

\"That's right, Daniel!\" Mrs. Taylor gave me a high-five. \"The three R's are the fundamentals of education that help build all our other learning. Reading to understand words and stories, writing to express yourselves, and arithmetic for working with numbers.\"

She went around the room having some of us recite simple addition problems to practice our arithmetic skills. I wasn't a huge fan of math, but I knuckled down and tried my best. The sooner I got it done, the sooner we could move on to the fun stuff!

After our math practice, Mrs. Taylor transitioned to our reading and writing lesson for the day. \"Okay, who can summarize the story we started reading yesterday about the puppy who got lost?\"

My best friend Alicia's hand shot up first, so Mrs. Taylor called on her. Alicia quickly recounted how this young puppy had wandered too far from home while playing outside and gotten lost in the neighborhood streets. I smiled, thinking about my

own rambunctious puppy Dylan and how he was always scampering around the backyard.

As Alicia continued summarizing the story from our reading book, I tuned her out a bit and my mind wandered to thoughts of recess. Maybe we could play Kickball again today - that was tons of fun! Or perhaps we'd get to go on the swings and slides over on the playground.

My Mid-Term English Exam

I was so nervous for my mid-term English exam! English is one of my favorite subjects but tests always make me a little scared. What if I forget everything I learned? My mom helped me study a lot though, so I felt kind of ready.

The morning of the test, I had butterflies in my tummy during breakfast. I couldn't eat much because I was too anxious. My dad made me drink a glass of orange juice though to get some energy. Then we walked to school a little early so I could take some deep breaths before going inside.

When I got to my classroom, my best friend Sarah was already at her desk. She looked just as nervous as me! We did a

few practice questions together to warm up our brains. Soon, the teacher handed out the test booklets.

The first section was listening. We had to listen really carefully to a recording about a family going on a picnic. Afterwards, we had to circle whether some sentences were true or false based on what we heard. I think I did pretty well on that part!

Next was the reading section. We had a short story to read out loud. Then we had to answer comprehension questions about what happened. The story was about a puppy who got lost in the park. It was kind of sad but had a happy ending when the owners found him again. The questions weren't too hard. The writing part made me bite my nails a little. We had to write a few sentences describing our favorite food and why we like it so much. I wrote about pizza because it's just the best! I made sure to use capital letters and periods like we practiced. Hopefully I spelled everything right.

The speaking part at the end was kind of fun. We had to go one-by-one to the teacher's desk and describe a picture out loud. Mine was of a boy riding his bicycle. I remembered lots of good adjectives to use like \"red,\" \"shiny,\" and \"fast.\" Phew!

Finally, the test was over! I felt relieved to turn it in. Some parts were pretty difficult but overall I think it went okay. No matter what my score is, I tried my best.

My parents were so proud of me for working hard. We all went out for my favorite meal, chicken nuggets and fries, to celebrate being halfway done with first grade! What an

accomplishment. Now I'm ready for the next half of the year and to keep learning more English. Maybe next time the test won't feel so scary!

My Favorite Animal

I love animals! They are so cute and fun. My favorite animal is a puppy. Puppies are little dogs that are very small and playful. They have soft fur that is nice to pet. Puppies like to run and jump and play a lot. Their little tails wag back and forth when they are happy.

I wish I could have a puppy of my very own. I would give it a name like Buddy or Rufus. I would take good care of my puppy and feed it every day. We could play fetch together by throwing a ball or stick for the puppy to chase. At night, my puppy could sleep on a cozy little bed right next to mine.

Puppies are so energetic and full of life. They always seem to be wagging their tails and wanting to explore everything around them. I think having a puppy would be the best thing ever! Their big eyes and floppy ears make me smile. Someday I hope I can get a puppy to be my friend and pet. That would make me the happiest kid in the whole world!

I just love puppies so much. They are definitely my number one favorite animal. Is there anything cuter than a tiny puppy? I don't think so! Puppies are sweet, playful, and cuddly all at the same time. They bring so much joy and happiness.

If only I could spend all day just playing with puppies. I would roll around on the floor with them and let them lick my face. We could take naps together and I could hug them tight. Puppies make me laugh with their silly antics like chasing their own tails.

Having a puppy would be a big responsibility though. I would have to make sure it gets enough food, water, and exercise. I would need to take it for walks and clean up any messes. It's a lot of work to take care of a puppy properly. But I really want one anyway! Maybe for my next birthday, my parents will finally let me get a puppy. I promise I'll be the best puppy owner ever. I'll feed it, play with it, and snuggle it

every single day. Oh, I just can't wait to have an adorable little furry puppy of my very own!

My Favorite Toy

My favorite toy is my teddy bear. His name is Brownie. Brownie is brown and very soft. He has a red ribbon around his neck. I got Brownie on my birthday last year. I love to hug him and take him everywhere with me. Brownie sleeps with me every night. He keeps me safe. I tell Brownie all my secrets. He is my best friend. I will never let go of Brownie because he is so special to me. Brownie makes me happy. My Big Summer Adventure

Last summer was the best summer ever! I had so many fun adventures. It all started on the last day of school. I was so excited for summer vacation to begin. No more waking up early or doing homework. Just playing all day!

The very next morning after school ended, my parents surprised me and my little sister with a special trip. We went to a huge water park! It had gigantic swimming pools, twisting water slides, and even a lazy river you could float along. I spent the

whole day splashing and racing down the slippery slides. I didn't want the fun to end, but we had to go home eventually. I passed out that night from exhaustion after so much excitement. A few days later, we went on a camping trip with my aunt, uncle, and cousins. We all piled into a big RV and drove for hours through the mountains. When we finally got to the campground, we set up our tents near a beautiful lake. In the afternoon, the boys went fishing while the girls had a picnic. I caught a tiny fish but my cousin Billy caught the biggest one! That night, we had a campfire and roasted marshmallows. We told scary stories and looked at all the bright stars in the night sky. I've never seen so many stars before since we live in the city. Sleeping in the tent was really fun, like having a sleepover outside.

The next few weeks of summer flew by. We had a big party for the 4th of July and I got to stay up late to watch the fireworks. Awesome! My days were filled with swimming at the pool, running around the backyard, and playing with my best friends from down the street. We had lemonade stands, played

hide-and-seek for hours, and came up with new games every day. Summer days felt like they would never end.

Then in August, my family went on a trip to the beach! We stayed in a beach house right by the ocean. I had never seen the

ocean before - it was huge! I spent my days boogie boarding in the waves, making sandcastles, and looking for seashells. We would play frisbee on the sand and watch the sunset every evening. For dinner we got to eat my favorite food - pizza on the beach! I didn't want to leave when our vacation ended.

Soon after we got back home, it was time for me to start first grade. I was sad for summer to be over, but I had so many amazing memories. I can't wait for next summer so I can have all new adventures! Maybe my family will take me to Disneyland or we'll go camping again. A new summer of fun and exploring awaits. This time, I'll get to be even older and bigger so I can do more exciting things. Yay for summer!

My Favorite Pet

I have a pet dog named Buddy. He is a golden retriever. Buddy is the best dog ever! He has soft yellow fur and a wet nose. His tail wags really fast when I come home from school.
